The announcement was made in collaboration with Inspirit, a virtual experiential learning platform that provides students with immersive simulations, 3D models, and other educational resources powered by researchers at Stanford University’s Virtual Human Interaction Lab. After the initial launch, Snapchat plans to deliver a total of 25 STEM AR learning modules to at least 50 schools across the country.

The public release is bolstered by a 2023 case study conducted by Inspirit, Snapchat and Stride Inc., a K-12 education management organization. This study involved a group of 8th grade students and teachers working with Stride, Inc. were collaborating, provided access to Snap AR simulations designed to reinforce fundamental 8th grade STEM concepts such as volume, mass and density. The simulations are based on Inspirit’s STEM curriculum and are available through its Center for Innovative Learning, which offers a variety of augmented reality lessons with national and state education standards.

A post-test survey of students found that 92.3 percent reported finding the content easy to understand, and 84.6 percent expressed a renewed interest in STEM subjects based on the use of AR. Teachers also reported a positive connection to the lessons, including increased attention span.

Research on various AR use cases has documented an overall positive impact on student learning. A recent meta-analysis of several educational studies found that, despite considerable disagreement about the impact of AR on student motivation, most users reported positive learning outcomes associated with the use of AR as well as higher learning gains compared to traditional education. materials and methods.
